The Revel Loudspeaker Company was founded to create world-class speakers for the real world. Its design philosophy is rooted in the simple truth that in order to celebrate genuine advances in loudspeaker technology and fidelity, the loudspeaker must be developed to deliver outstanding accuracy within a real-world environment of rooms and furnishings, involving real listeners and audio systems. The conventional anechoic analysis of performance has been rejected in favour of a greater understanding of how we perceive sound and how this can change with room size, shape and décor. This is the primary intelligence that drives the design of Revel’s loudspeakers. Its engineers have used the most sophisticated measurement tools – including their ears – to define the components of sound that are most critical to perception and then optimise the mechanical and electrical elements of loudspeaker design to preserve the good things and minimise the bad. They understand for instance that timbre is the most significant and complex audible characteristic. They know why dynamic compression occurs and how to reduce it and they know about directivity, resonance, and distortion. Revel conceives a loudspeaker as a component in a sound reproduction system as well as a system in its own right. Nothing is overlooked and everything is listened to. |
