Cable management should always be considered when designing any rack layout. Clarity in wiring and the avoidance of possible interference make for good custom installation practice.
Conventionally components will be connected directly to external cables. This means that the cables have to be cut to specific lengths determined by the position of each component within the rack.
The question then is how much spare cable do you allow and how do you hide the excess? Also what happens should you need to replace or relocate components at a later date?
With a patch panel, a rack can be completely wired away from the wiring hub, and then connected together at the last moment.

Three versions are available: 1U 16-way, 2U 32-way and 3U 48-way.
